Itineraries

Day 1

Welcome to Dakar!

Once you have arrived at Blaise Diagne International Airport you will be met by one of our partnering drivers waiting to escort you to the hotel. Once unpacked and settle in we’ll leave you to get accustomed to Dakar. Depending on when you arrive, you will have a few hours to nap, swim, meet fellow travellers or even explore the downtown city with us!

We will call all on the tour downstairs at 8pm (no African timing) for our welcome dinner.

If you miss this dinner, due to late flights, we’ll save you some snacks!

Day 2

Become a local

Day 2 is where the real fun starts! You’ll explore Dakar with our local tour guide in air conditioned vans. Here you will see the most popular tourist attractions such as Grand Mosque of Dakar, Presidential Palace, African Renaissance Monument, Market Soumbédioune, Cathedral du Souvenir African de Dakar and La Maison des Esclaves. We’ll end the day with relaxing at one of the many modern restaurants and bars the city has to offer.

Day 3

Stepping Back into time

Today we will be up early to head to Village des Arts located just outside of Yoff neighbourhood. This gallery is perfect for art lovers as it showcases some amazing art pieces from local Senegalese artists and painters. We will then head to The IFAN Musuem and Museum of Black Civilizations, With a hundred of artefacts, from African clothing styles to traditional armour dating back hundreds of years. A must visit if you’re in Dakar. These museums are great places to go to explore more of West African culture.

Our next destination is the ports which is a 5 minute drive where we will take a 20 minute ferry to the Island of Gorée. If there’s one must visit place in Dakar, this is it! Just off the coast of mainland Senegal, Goree Island was a 15th century slave island which offers a better understanding the transatlantic slave trade and Senegalese history. From museums to well preserved buildings, this UNESECO World Heritage Site truly feels like you’re stepping back in time. This island is a chilling reminder of the scar of slavery many African countries still carry. (Senegalese and Africans get a discounted rate onto the island so make sure you bring your ID with you). We will spend the whole day on Goree and enjoy a local meal before heading back to Dakar.

Day 4

Meeting Salt Bae

Today we will see one of the country’s most unique attractions the pink lake! Also known as Lac Rose or Lake Retba. This is a beautiful lake located 45km from central Dakar and is naturally pink due to the high salt content. We will set off here in the morning to allow you time to fully explore the attraction and even take a boat ride across the lake. Here you can also find local merchants who you can buy souvenirs from.

Day 5

Become a Wolof Warrior

Today will be your last day in Dakar. There are no activities planned for today and so you are free to leave at any time to either relax or cram more activities in. We have a choice of activities such as day trips to neighbouring cities such as Theis, night tours and more to choose from. Please do let us know beforehand if any of these activities interest you.

We will in the evening have dinner at the beach and celebrate the time in Senegal. There are optional extensions of the trip to Senegambia.

Day 6

Experience the simple life

The tour will end in Senegal with a Farewell breakfast. Airport drop offs from this city will be available to please do let us know beforehand your flight time.

*THIS IS AN OPTIONAL ADDITION – THIS ITIENERY IS FOR THOSE PLANNING TO CONTINUE THE TRIP TO THE GAMBIA*

Today we embark on a unique adventure for many tourists. We will set off early to take a Local bus ride into the neighbouring country; The Gambia. This 6 hour journey will have stops along the way in local rural villages and will give you a chance to get away from the city and experience a simpler way of life. Once at the boarder please do ensure that you have all valid travel requirements necessary to enter the Gambia.

When we arrive at Gambia we will head to the neighbourhood of serrekunda where we will be staying. We will have time to drop our bags at the hotel before heading to the beach for a Sunset dinner

Day 7

New city, New sights

Today we will explore this small but wonderful country by starting with a city tour. We will head into the city centre and start by seeing the monument Arch 22 then the National Museum. The National museum of the Gambia presents historical and cultural artefacts from the colonial history of the Gambia. The museum opened in 1985 and has an archeological section and also a historical section. We will then head to the bustling Albert Market Albert market where you can find all sorts of items sold here. Once finished here we’ll end the day by Exploring James Island. This island, also known as Kunte Kente island is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popularised by the film roots, a lot of people do not know that this island is a very real place. Marking the story of slavery in the Gambia, the Island allows you to explore the Gambian history from pre-colonialism up until their independence. Truly a must-see island!

Day 8

Time to get snappy

We’ll start off the day with a kick of adrenaline as we head to Katchikally Crocodile Pool one of three sacred crocodile pools in the Gambia. The crocodile is a symbol of fertility and the sacred sites are still used for rituals by women who find difficulties getting pregnant. The legend of crocodiles bringing fertility to women dates back 500 years when the Bojang family first settled in the area. Here you will have the opportunity to touch and feed them for an additional fee.

After this we will head to Tanji village museum located in Tanji. This museum is a unique historical place showcasing precolonial Gambian lifestyle. You get a guided tour of the grounds and a traditional performance. We will then head to Tanji Bird Reserve, Home to over 540 different bird species, this national park is every twitcher’s paradise and a must-visit for nature and bird lovers.

We’ll end the day on a high by watching monkeys swing high in Bijilo forest park. Here you’ll get a unique opportunity to feed the monkeys nuts and follow the trail out to the adjacent beach where will end the day and our tour with a farewell dinner.

Day 9

Farewell Breakfast

The tour will end in The Gambia with a Farewell breakfast. Airport drop offs from this city will be available to Banjul International Airport (BJL)

Senegal, a country with beautiful scenery and mass cultural preservations. It is situated on the coast of West Africa. Its neighbouring countries are GambiaGuinea BissauGuineaMali and Mauritania. The country’s capital is Dakar where the tour begins. This bustling city is crammed with amazing attractions and will start the tour off on a high. We will travel accross the city before heading to The Gambia; one of the smallest countries in Africa surrounded almost completely by Senegal. 

This cultural tour  takes you across some of Senegal’s highlights and really helps you understand the breath of their history and culture. Jammed packed with amazing unique experiences, cultural ceremonies and natural wonders this tour offers cultural and adventure seekers everything. So are you ready to SEESenegambia?
