We will call all on the tour downstairs at 8pm (no African timing) for our welcome dinner.

If you miss this dinner, due to late flights, we’ll save you some snacks!

Become a local

Day 2 is where the real fun starts! You’ll explore Dakar with our local tour guide in air conditioned vans. Here you will see the most popular tourist attractions such as Grand Mosque of Dakar, Presidential Palace, African Renaissance Monument, Market Soumbédioune, Cathedral du Souvenir African de Dakar and La Maison des Esclaves. We’ll end the day with relaxing at one of the many modern restaurants and bars the city has to offer.

Stepping Back into time

Today we will be up early to head to Village des Arts located just outside of Yoff neighbourhood. This gallery is perfect for art lovers as it showcases some amazing art pieces from local Senegalese artists and painters. We will then head to The IFAN Musuem and Museum of Black Civilizations, With a hundred of artefacts, from African clothing styles to traditional armour dating back hundreds of years. A must visit if you’re in Dakar. These museums are great places to go to explore more of West African culture.

Our next destination is the ports which is a 5 minute drive where we will take a 20 minute ferry to the Island of Gorée. If there’s one must visit place in Dakar, this is it! Just off the coast of mainland Senegal, Goree Island was a 15th century slave island which offers a better understanding the transatlantic slave trade and Senegalese history. From museums to well preserved buildings, this UNESECO World Heritage Site truly feels like you’re stepping back in time. This island is a chilling reminder of the scar of slavery many African countries still carry. (Senegalese and Africans get a discounted rate onto the island so make sure you bring your ID with you). We will spend the whole day on Goree and enjoy a local meal before heading back to Dakar.

Meeting Salt Bae

Today we will see one of the country’s most unique attractions the pink lake! Also known as Lac Rose or Lake Retba. This is a beautiful lake located 45km from central Dakar and is naturally pink due to the high salt content. We will set off here in the morning to allow you time to fully explore the attraction and even take a boat ride across the lake. Here you can also find local merchants who you can buy souvenirs from.

Become a Wolof Warrior

Today will be your last day in Dakar. There are no activities planned for today and so you are free to leave at any time to either relax or cram more activities in. We have a choice of activities such as day trips to neighbouring cities such as Theis, night tours and more to choose from. Please do let us know beforehand if any of these activities interest you.

We will in the evening have dinner at the beach and celebrate the time in Senegal. There are optional extensions of the trip to Senegambia.

When we arrive at Gambia we will head to the neighbourhood of serrekunda where we will be staying. We will have time to drop our bags at the hotel before heading to the beach for a Sunset dinner.

New city, New sights

Today we will explore this small but wonderful country by starting with a city tour. We will head into the city centre and start by seeing the monument Arch 22 then the National Museum. The National museum of the Gambia presents historical and cultural artefacts from the colonial history of the Gambia. The museum opened in 1985 and has an archeological section and also a historical section.  We will then head to the bustling Albert Market Albert market where you can find all sorts of items sold here. Once finished here we’ll end the day by Exploring James Island. This island, also known as Kunte Kente island is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Popularised by the film roots, a lot of people do not know that this island is a very real place. Marking the story of slavery in the Gambia, the Island allows you to explore the Gambian history from pre-colonialism up until their independence. Truly a must-see island!

Time to get snappy

We’ll start off the day with a kick of adrenaline as we head to Katchikally Crocodile Pool one of three sacred crocodile pools in the Gambia. The crocodile is a symbol of fertility and the sacred sites are still used for rituals by women who find difficulties getting pregnant. The legend of crocodiles bringing fertility to women dates back 500 years when the Bojang family first settled in the area. Here you will have the opportunity to touch and feed them for an additional fee.

After this we will head to Tanji village museum located in Tanji. This museum is a unique historical place showcasing precolonial Gambian lifestyle. You get a guided tour of the grounds and a traditional performance. We will then head to Tanji Bird Reserve, Home to over 540 different bird species, this national park is every twitcher’s paradise and a must-visit for nature and bird lovers.
